He isn't worth the effort in global because people think the lapis are better used elsewhere (Orlandeu). However this isn't because Thancred is bad, but more of a picking your investments carefully. Thancred also requires the event weapon as its the only weapon he can equip I believe. So its is a lot of farming with limited time from a brand new account.

To add on, while his weapon is limited now, more gunblades are coming in the future. But you can only get his shards in this event, so those are priority(Try to get LB3 for almost full potential)

Is there a chance that this event would come back some other time? I only got him to lb3 and i dont think i can make it to lb4 with the time remaining. Thanks

In JP, there was a raid for FFXIV Shadowbringers that let you get his shards--people are "speculating" that it might come to Global.

Also, don't know if it'll help but you could also buy tickets after the event ends since the shop should remain for a few more days afterwards.

The raid never came out in JP, which is why JP got half cost on the event maps for the last bit.
