That would depend on the buff your unit has for that specific attack type, and the target (enemy) unit weakness towards that specific attack type.
For instance, Mont Leonis [MR unit] is weak towards Magic type attack by at least 20%. Hence, he'd be squishy against mages. They'd do 20% more damage towards him using magic type damage, plus, I do believe there are bonuses for side attacks or back attacks.
You should probably run the Beginner's Guide Event, you'll learn this and a lot more. There's a lot of goodies as well. I believe there's a MR+ Summon Ticket when you finish the Event.
