Spell Blade have more powerful skills that utilize his mag stats, but ninja will give you more range and some useful support skill

Early stick to squire so he uses his tailwind. A lot of people say that squire is bad but he very rarely uses stone throw in my experience. Once you have full awakening switch to spellblade if you manage to get a decent armor and a sword with high magic, otherwise switch to ninja. Most important skills are shimmering blade, shout, and triple attack early, later get banish, banishga blade and resist magic. Taunting spell should be avoided for now in my opinion unless you make him your tank.
